Remembrance

The War Memorial, Fair Oak Square
11am Sunday 8th November

Please join in with words in bold italic

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old, Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
we will remember them.
ALL: We will remember them.

Prayers

Bidding: May God give peace
Response: God give us peace

The Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen.

The Act of Commitment

Let us commit ourselves to responsible living and faithful service.
Will you strive for all that makes for peace?
ALL: We will.
Will you seek to heal the wounds of suffering, war and conflict?
ALL: We will.
Will you work for a just future for all humanity?
ALL: We will.
Lord God our Father, we pledge ourselves to serve you and all mankind, in the cause of peace, for the relief of want and suffering, and for the praise of your name.
Guide us by your Spirit; give us wisdom; give us courage; give us hope; and keep us faithful now and always.
Amen.

Hymn: O God our help in ages past

O God, our help in ages past,
our hope for years to come,
our shelter from the stormy blast,
and our eternal home.

Under the shadow of thy throne,
still may we dwell secure;
Sufficient is thine arm alone,
and our defence is sure.

Before the hills in order stood,
or earth received her frame,
from everlasting, thou art God,
to endless years the same.

A thousand ages, in thy sight,
are like an evening gone;
short as the watch that ends the night,
before the rising sun.

Time, like an ever rolling stream,
bears all who breathe away;
they fly forgotten, as a dream
dies at the opening day.

O God, our help in ages past,
our hope for years to come;
be thou our guide while life shall last,
and our eternal home.
